Arc Buddies is dedicated to matching volunteers from our community and a person with a developmental disability for friendship.
Arc Buddies: The Arc plans two scheduled, optional events per month for the matches to attend. From bowling, game nights, bingo, potlucks, movie nights, sporting events, concerts in the park, to many other community events. The Arc encourages the volunteer's family and friends to be involved in growing the relationship of the match!
Volunteers: "Volunteers are seldom paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are PRICELESS!" --Anonymous
"Some of the richest people in the world are not millionaires, they are volunteers...rich in heart and spirit." --Anonymous
The goal of a volunteer in Arc Buddies is friendship with his/her buddy, while encouraging the emotional and social growth needed to develop future relationships.
Volunteers meet with their Arc Buddy at least twice a month and stay connected through phone calls and e-mail.
Individuals seeking to have a buddy: Must be 12 years of age or older with a developmental disability and have the desire to meet new friends.

"Volunteering is part of my lifestyle now. I plan to continue volunteering throughout my life in different places." --Volunteer
| "This is such a flexible program. With my studies and job I can still make time each month for my buddy! When I started this program it was for one school year. I am in my third year now. I thought I was going to give my buddy something wonderful...well I am getting something awesome out of this experience...never did I imagine it would be this enriching. Thank you so much!" --Volunteer
|
"There are many individuals who are just waiting for the chance to be matched and have someone to be their friend and spend time with them." --Volunteer

The three "C's" of Arc Buddies:
Commitment: Individuals in Arc Buddies have waited a very long time to be matched with volunteers from the community. It is my hope and prayer that you will give one full school year to the Arc Buddy program with your buddy. The more time you give to your buddy, the more enriching the experience becomes...What you gain from volunteering is something you will not learn from a text book.
Consistency: Please be consistant. If you tell your buddy that you plan to call, please carry through and make the phone call. Say what you mean, and mean what you say.
Courtesy/Character: When you decide it is time to end your relationship with Arc Buddies, please plan this out and talk to your buddy. This will help your buddy with the transition. Not saying goodbye could cause your buddy to feel rejection. Please, be courtous and talk about the goodbye. This will also help your buddy positively in future relationships. How you handle letting go of this relationship will make a lasting impression. I want this experience to be positive in the hello as well as the goodbye.
Commitment, Consistency & Courtesy/Character ... so important in relationship building.
